The domain should be under your control
The registrant account should identify the business or an authorised owner and the business should be able to renew, transfer and update the domain. If a designer manages it for convenience, ask how access and transfer would work if the relationship ended.
Files, database and administrator access
For a WordPress website, practical control normally means access to the administration area plus a transferable copy of the files and database. Editing access alone may let you change words while still preventing a move. Ask what access is supplied at handover.
Words, photographs and third-party licences
You should know who created every important asset and what licence applies. Stock photographs, fonts, plugins and booking tools may remain licensed by their original providers. Ownership of the website does not automatically transfer copyright in third-party material.
Hosting is a service, not the website
A host stores and serves the website. Moving host should not require rebuilding a portable WordPress site, although specialist systems can be harder to move. Check the renewal price, backup arrangements and whether migration help is included.
